On Wednesday, March 10 I’ll be a part of a special team presenting a half day Clergy Communications Workshop for the priests of the Diocese of Fresno. Our very forward-thinking Bishop has embraced Pope Benedict XVI’s World Communications Day Message for this year and is providing this opportunity to assist the priests of our diocese with implementing technology strategies in their ministry. The Fresno Bee shared information on this workshop in this recent article. Please join me in praying for our priests and those who will join me in presenting this event.

April Mom’s Night Out/Meet and Greet – Chicago

One of the exciting things about launching The Handbook for Catholic Moms: Nurturing Your Heart, Mind, Body, and Soul has been all of the opportunities to get out and meet wonderful moms! I just learned that I’m going to have the opportunity to do this in Chicago on April 14th at a great event being hosted by the Daughters of St. Paul and the Pauline Books & Media Center. Honestly, whenever I’m in Chicago I always make a visit to their store, so it will be a real treat to spend time with the Sisters and all of you. Also, for my non-mom friends out there, please know that you are welcome to attend this event – in fact, I hope you do! If you live any where near Chicago, I hope you’ll join me for what promises to be a very fun evening. Also, can you help me spread the word? April 1, 2010, Chicago, IL – Lisa M. Hendey, in her compelling first book, The Handbook for Catholic Moms: Nurturing Your Heart, Mind, Body, and Soul, collects the wisdom of her ten-year-old website, CatholicMom.com. Hendey will be promoting her new book in Chicago on Wednesday, April 14 from 6:30—8:30pm at Pauline Books & Media located at 172 N Michigan Avenue. This Mom’s Night Out event will allow Catholic “moms” to receive the encouragement they need in their most important vocation. After the event she will be available for a Meet and Greet.

Drawing from the deep tradition of the Catholic faith, Lisa Hendey coaches Catholic moms in how to care for themselves—heart, mind, body, and soul—so that they can better love and care for their families, their neighbors, and their Church. With warmth and wisdom, Hendey creates an environment where Catholic moms can reflect peacefully upon often-competitive topics like parenting style, types of schooling, and working outside the home. By sharing her own story, Hendey inspires readers to better balance their own needs with the demands of family life and faith commitment.

Lisa Hendey is a wife, mother, web designer, freelance writer, and the creator of CatholicMom.com, a website focusing on the Catholic faith, Catholic parenting and family life, and Catholic cultural topics. Hendey did her undergraduate work at the University of Notre Dame and later earned a Master’s Degree in Human Resource Development from Vanderbilt University. Today, she heads a home-based web design business and is also a regular contributor to Catholic Exchange, Catholic Online, Catholic.net, and countless other internet publications. Her recent projects include her Catholic Moments podcast (www.catholicmoments.com), a weekly interview program. Hendey resides in Fresno, California with her husband Greg and their two sons, Eric and Adam. In addition to her work with CatholicMom.com, she is also the webmaster for St. Anthony of Padua’s school and parish websites. Hendey and her family are also active members of the parish. Podcast Pleasure

Since I’m such a huge fan of Catholic podcasts, it was a real treat last week to have The Handbook for Catholic Moms: Nurturing Your Heart, Mind, Body and Soul featured on two of my favorite shows. Listen in to the iPadre Catholic Podcast to hear my conversation with one of my favorite priests, Fr. Jay Finelli. Fr. Jay is a contributor to the book, and one of those hold priests who really “gets” the use of new media in his priesthood. If I had the opportunity to chat with Fr. Jay every week, I’d likely be a much better wife, mom and person.

The second podcast to feature the book last week was my very own family of mom bloggers at the Faith & Family Live Cast. You can almost hear me blushing out loud at the very kind remarks offered by my friends and writing colleagues Danielle Bean and Arwen Mosier. Honestly, hearing the two of them talk so sweetly about our book made my heart sing. Since both of these two fine writers are also contributors to the book, it was especially joyful to share this conversation with them!

Lisa at St. Joachim’s for The 13th Day

This past weekend, I had the absolute honor of visiting with the parishioners of my fellow Diocese of Fresno parish St. Joachim’s in Madera, CA. One of their priests, Fr. Rafael Lavilla, OSJ, kindly invited me to give the introductory remarks for their screening of The 13th Day: The True Story of Fatima. Fr. Rafael, an amazing young priest, struck upon the idea of presenting the film as a fundraiser for the parish’s wonderful Theology of the Body group.

I teased Father Rafael that he should go into the car sales business – when he first invited me to speak, I must admit that I doubted how many people would show up to church on Saturday night to watch a black and white film about Our Lady of Fatima.

Well, Fr. Rafael and the families of St. Joachim’s proved me wrong! Over three hundred tickets were sold and the parish hall was packed to capacity to watch this amazing movie. After the film, we were treated to a very informative question and answer session by another of the Oblate priests from the parish.

If you haven’t already heard Catholic Moments Podcast #129, be sure to check out a press conference that provides a tremendous overview of the making of The 13th Day.

I love visiting parishes and must say that my trip to St. Joachim’s gave me an even greater desire to do more of this in the year ahead. I want to congratulate Fr. Rafael and his TOBers on an outstanding event. You managed to raise funds while providing a fun, inspirational, and educational evening for your entire parish family. I hope I’m invited to your next Movie Night!
